Singapore World Famous Tour (notorious or noteworthy?)
Hi my name is MK, I am an ex Air Force fighter pilot and went on to have a career as a Singapore Airlines commercial pilot. I have had the privilege of visiting and learning about many countries and getting to know people from many cultures and heritage. As a licensed tourist guide, I hope to now be able to share the culture and heritage of my country Singapore with visitors from all over the world.
— MK, your guideWhat you'll experience
What is Singapore most associated with? Cleanliness, Good Food? Tough Laws? Chewing Gum? Or Crazy Rich Asians? Is Singapore largely admired or at times a little misunderstood? Many of these aspects of Singapore came forth from deep historical, cultural, social, economic and political origins. A nation of immigrants and with no natural resources; Singapore had to establish a stable and prosperous society; and in doing so created a truly unique multi racial, multi cultural and cosmopolitan nation. Join me on a tour that explains the motivations behind the unique customs, practices, policies and laws that has made Singapore what it is today. Let me share some of the funny misconceptions, folklore, urban legends and stories behind the glamour and glitter that is Singapore.
What to expect
We’ll start off at the Civic District where many of the old colonial buildings have been preserved; most of which have been gazetted as National Monuments. This was the seat of government and administration during colonial times and the origins of Singapore’s legal system. From colonial times to post independence, many laws were passed; such as the Women’s Charter, the Central Provident Fund (CPF) and the National Service (NS) Acts. Why were these necessary and how did they contribute to the development of Singapore? Traversing next to the Singapore River, Boat Quay and Clarke Quay and continuing past the Old Hill Street Police Station, Hong Lim Park and towards Chinatown; we will begin to understand why Singapore is so serious about its Anti Drug and Racial Harmony Laws; as well as some of the seemingly less serious policies such as the banning of chewing gum and durians. Large or small, these practices, policies and laws have created a truly unique Singapore identity. Let me share some of the facts, as well as some of the funny stories that may have led to misunderstandings about Singapore; a tiny red dot that can hardly be seen on a world map but has captured the imagination and wonder of the world; welcome to Singapore.
